Employee Family Company Picnic Planning at El Segundo Recreation Park: Celebrating the HSF 2026 Crew

For 200 HSF employees and their families, we planned an all-inclusive company picnic featuring BBQ catering, family activities, and plenty of space to enjoy an afternoon at the park.

There is no greater honor than being brought back to plan another year of the HSF company picnic at El Segundo Recreation Park in El Segundo, California. With 200 attendees, we planned a delicious catering package with a two-sided buffet line for quick throughput, comfortable outdoor seating, staffing, sound, and plenty of activities, including our MEGA Field Games package, the cornerstone of every company picnic because it adds the team building piece that gets employees connecting, working together, and competing for a common goal. We are grateful HSF brought us back for another year and look forward to next year’s company picnic with them.

Providing Company Picnic Catering for 200 People at El Segundo Park

​Food service is one of the biggest factors in the success of any company picnic, and for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund team, we planned a menu with enough variety to accommodate different tastes, dietary preferences, and age groups. To keep lines moving and maximize guest time at the event, service was provided through a two-sided buffet line staffed by our team.

Main Menu

• Smoked Baby Back Ribs: Tender smoked baby back ribs served as one of the featured BBQ selections on the buffet.
• Open Flame Grilled Sliced BBQ Chicken Breast: Fresh chicken breast grilled over an open flame and sliced for quick buffet service.
• 1/3 lb Angus Beef Hamburgers: A company picnic favorite served with access to a fresh deluxe condiment bar featuring classic burger toppings and sauces.
• All-Beef Hot Dogs: Served with chili and cheese available on the side so guests could customize their meal.
• French Fries: A classic picnic side that paired perfectly with the barbecue selections.
• Garlic Vegetable Normandy: A seasoned vegetable blend that provided a lighter option alongside the heartier buffet selections.

Vegan Options

• Stuffed Vegan Bell Peppers: A hearty plant-based entrée prepared for guests looking for a complete vegan meal option.
• Vegan Patties: Served hot from the grill and available with the same fresh condiment selections offered throughout the buffet.
• Vegan Hot Dogs: An additional plant-based option that ensured vegan guests had multiple entrée choices available during service.

Fresh Deluxe Condiment Bar

• ​Burger & Hot Dog Toppings Station: Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, sauces, chili, cheese, and traditional toppings allowed guests to customize their burgers and hot dogs exactly the way they wanted.

Beverage Bar

• Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr Pepper, 7UP & Sunkist: Served over ice from our tented beverage station throughout the event.
• Fresh Sweet Tea: A company picnic favorite that paired perfectly with the BBQ buffet.
• Fresh Lemonade: Served ice cold throughout the afternoon.
• Filtered Water Station: Available throughout the event to keep guests refreshed while enjoying the activities, attractions, and outdoor setting at El Segundo Recreation Park.

Carnival Fun Foods

• Personal Size Strawberry Funnel Cakes: Fresh personal-size funnel cakes topped with powdered sugar for a classic picnic treat.
• Shaved Ice with Self-Serve Flavors: Shaved ice served with self-serve flavor options so guests could choose their own combinations.
• Spun On-Site Cotton Candy: Fresh cotton candy spun on-site during the picnic.
• Buttered Popcorn: Fresh buttered popcorn served as an easy grab-and-go snack throughout the event.

Bringing Mega Field Games to El Segundo Park for Employee Team Building

Our MEGA Field Games package is the cornerstone of every company picnic because it gives employees a reason to interact, work together, and build relationships outside of the workplace. Throughout the afternoon, teams gathered around a variety of challenges, friendly competition, and prize opportunities that encouraged communication, cooperation, and problem solving. With a common goal, a little pressure, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines, it is easy to see why our field games are one of the most valuable parts of the event.

Good Variety: How We Planned the Entertainment for This Group​

For a 200-person employee family picnic, the entertainment package needed attractions with strong visual impact, broad age appeal, and enough throughput.

The Sports Trio is a classic company picnic piece because it offers three different sports challenges in one bright, colorful unit. Guests could try soccer shooting, baseball pitching, and quarterback tossing, making it a great fit for employees, families, and kids who wanted something quick, familiar, and easy to enjoy together.

The Ninja Rush Obstacle Course added a strong competitive element to the event with two lanes so guests could race side by side, climb the tall wall, and come down the slide finish. For a company picnic of this size, quick throughput matters, and this piece gave guests an exciting attraction that looked great in the background at El Segundo Recreation Park while keeping the line moving.

​The Dino World Kids Playcenter gave the younger children their own age-appropriate inflatable to enjoy. This dinosaur-themed play center includes ride-ons, climbing features, sliding areas, and plenty of room for multiple children to play at once without feeling crowded. It was a great fit for ages 2 to 8 and gave little kids something fun, colorful, and exciting that matched their size and energy level.

​Adding Variety: Carnival Games & Airbrush Art

We also included one of our traditional red and blue wooden carnival game booths, which always adds that classic family picnic feeling. Each booth includes two games and an attendant, so for this picnic, one booth was the right fit with all the other activities already happening throughout the park.

To add more of that carnival-style family fun, we also brought in our Fun Shack with a two of our airbrush artists doing tattoos and face painting. This is one of those pieces that works so well for an employee family picnic because it gives guests something personal to take with them, whether it is a painted face, a temporary tattoo, or photos with their kids. It adds another layer to the entertainment package and helps make the picnic feel full without feeling overdone.

Table Kits and Shade: Branding the Picnic Area

Outdoor seating was included in their event package. We used 60-inch round tables with eight chairs per table to create a more social layout where guests could face one another, eat, talk, and enjoy the company of their family and peers.

We also placed 9-foot market umbrellas across the picnic area, creating generous shade coverage while keeping guests close to the food, entertainment, and activities.

HSF requested red and blue table covers to match their company colors, so we alternated those colors throughout the seating area. It gave the picnic a more personalized look while keeping the setup comfortable, open, and easy for guests to use during lunch and throughout the afternoon.
