Giving the Families of the Eaton Fire a Moment of Relief at Jackie Robinson Memorial Field​

We had the pleasure of planning Dena Day: Pass It Forward, a community outreach event for the Pasadena-Sierra Madre YMCA at Jackie Robinson Memorial Field in Pasadena. For this event, we brought sports challenges, yard games, and table games, giving families who lost so much in the Eaton Fire a day away from the weight they've been carrying. NFL quarterbacks C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young also joined the day, spending time with attendees and helping recognize local first responders for their work during the fire. Families left with backpacks, school supplies, fresh food, and free YMCA memberships to help carry them into the next chapter of recovery.

Passing It Forward in the Sports Zone at Jackie Robinson Memorial Field​

Jackie Robinson Memorial Field is a historic baseball stadium in Brookside Park, so we matched it with low-liability, non-bounce inflatable sports challenges. ​The Quarterback Challenge gave players a shot at throwing their best pass through the target. The Field Goal Kick let solo kickers line up and go for the win. The Sports Trio, a staple at nearly every event we plan, combined three games side by side: Fast Ball, Football Toss, and Penalty Kick. Rounding out the lineup, the Hoop Shot Duo brought head-to-head basketball action, and Connect Three challenged players to land their shots through a row of overhead targets.

A Laid-Back Game Area Rounded Out the Games at Dena Day

Planning a community outreach event like Dena Day meant thinking through who would walk onto that field: the competitive kid ready to line up for Football Toss, the parent who just wanted somewhere to sit, the guest who'd rather toss a beanbag than throw a pass. Corn Hole and Jumbo Jenga gave the day a slower corner, a walk-up space with no line and no rulebook, just something easy to pick up between everything else going on. For families still carrying the weight of the last year, that kind of quiet space matters as much as the games that get the crowd moving.
